EmailScore vs. BriteVerify: which question are you answering?

Mailbox verification asks whether an inbox accepts mail. EmailScore answers a different question during the request: what is behind this address or domain, and what should your handler do? Some teams need one, some need both.

Capabilities and workflow fit

What each product brings to the decision

Vendor capability summary follows the linked official source, reviewed September 21, 2026. The suggested workflow is our interpretation of those capabilities, not a tested integration.

Official source

BriteVerify documented capabilities

Validity’s current BriteVerify product link leads to Contact Data Quality within Engage. That page describes email checks for syntax, domain, mail-routing records, and mailbox existence, alongside phone and postal-address validation. Compare the current product offering rather than assuming an older BriteVerify package is unchanged.

Email and domain checks

EmailScore capabilities

EmailScore returns allow, challenge, or deny for an email (/v1/email) or a domain on its own (/v1/domain), with the flags that drove it and the facts behind them: domain age when on record, mail host, MX, SPF, DMARC, disposable provider, typo suggestion. Bulk endpoints take up to 10,000 per request. It does not connect to the recipient's mail server, so it does not confirm that a mailbox exists.

Suggested evaluation

Where the workflows fit

If your requirement includes phone or postal-address validation, evaluate Validity's documented contact-data workflow. EmailScore covers email and domains only: request-time verdicts with the evidence behind them, and bulk re-checks. It does not replace the other contact-validation functions described by Validity.

Measure a complete workflow

Test normal addresses, aliases, known disposable addresses, typo domains, newly registered domains, parked or dead domains, and requests where DNS doesn't answer in time. Decide what outcome you require for each case before evaluating results.

Measure end-to-end time from your own servers, including timeouts and fallbacks, and your actual billed usage. Inspect false rejections as well as detected problems.

Running both

Mailbox verification and request-time risk checks answer different questions. If you run both, decide which one owns which decision. EmailScore does not confirm mailbox ownership or guarantee delivery.
